The holiday season is full of jolly, bright feelings inspired by the twinkling beauty of lights. Yet, nothing dampens the merry mood quite like plugging in your strand of lights to find big chunks are not lighting up. Before frustration takes over and you consider replacing the entire set, try this simple fix to revive your display. This can be especially helpful for pre-lit trees!

Remember, Safety First!

Before attempting any repairs on your Christmas lights, ensure your safety. Always unplug the lights before inspecting or handling them.

Step 1: Identify the Problem Bulbs

When your lights suddenly go dark, the first step is to identify the problematic bulbs. This task is often easier than it seems. Begin by inspecting the strand carefully. Look for any bulbs that appear dark, loose, or discolored. These are the likely culprits causing the short circuit.

Step 2: Replace Faulty Bulbs

Once you’ve pinpointed the problematic bulbs, it’s time to replace them. You can buy replacement bulbs at your local hardware store or a big box shop like Target or Amazon. Starting at your plug in the wall, trace your lights to find the first bulb that’s out. Gently pull to remove the bulb from its socket.

Step 3: Check and Reset the Fuse

In most cases, you’ll need to reset the light socket’s fuse. There’s an inexpensive tool called the “LightKeeper Pro” that you’ll need to invest in to accomplish this step. The “Quick Fix Trigger” fixes internal bulb failure with the squeeze of a trigger and enables the light set to illuminate. Upon resetting your first socket, place a NEW bulb back into the socket. This step will likely light quite a few bulbs in front of the one you just fixed.

Step 4: Keep Moving Along!

Continue tracing along your strand of lights until you happen upon the next burnt out bulb. Continue the same process from Step 3. Do this until your entire light strand is back in action!

If this Quick Fix doesn’t do the trick, it may be time to invest in new lights. If you’re fixing a pre-lit tree, you may need to simply cut off the old lights (make sure they are NOT plugged in!) and string up your tree with new ones. Also consider investing in LED lights, as their lifespan and sturdiness is much longer and stronger than incandescent lights.

By following these steps, you might just save yourself from the hassle and expense of purchasing a new set of lights. With a quick click of your “LightKeeper,” the festive cheer will be back to shining brightly in your home.
