For many members of the Real Estate One Family of Companies, volunteering at Special Olympics Michigan Summer Games has become a tradition they look forward to every year. This year’s event was no exception.
The Real Estate One Family of Companies was proud to once again support Special Olympics Michigan by volunteering at the 2026 Summer Games, where 29 employees, agents, family members, and friends spent two days helping run the bocce competitions.
Our team served as the largest volunteer group on both days of the event, helping moderate play across 15 bocce courts and overseeing approximately 14 matches on each lane every day. With nearly 1,000 athletes competing in singles and doubles events throughout the tournament, there was plenty of excitement, competition, and unforgettable moments to go around.
Day one featured doubles competition, while day two included both doubles and singles play. From keeping matches running smoothly to cheering athletes on from the sidelines, volunteers played an important role in making sure every competitor had a positive experience.
While many members of our team have volunteered at the Summer Games for years, the athletes always find a way to make each experience unique.
“One of the highlights this year was watching Stuart Elsea, President of Financial Services, get challenged on a bocce rule by one of the athletes,” said Kristen Thompson, Interim Director of the Real Estate One Charitable Foundation. “We’ve been volunteering on these courts for years, but it was a great reminder that we’re always learning, too.”
More than anything, volunteers walked away grateful for the opportunity to connect with the athletes and be part of such an inspiring event.
The Real Estate One Family of Companies has proudly supported Special Olympics Michigan for many years through fundraising, volunteer efforts, and community partnerships. Events like the Summer Games continue to remind us that some of the most meaningful moments happen when we come together to support one another.
