How to host the perfect game day

Let the game begin! No matter the sport, hosting a game day viewing party is always a great time. Making sure everyone has a comfortable place to sit and cheer is just as important as serving delicious snacks. Here are some tips to help you turn your home into the ultimate viewing party venue.

Create the space

Rearrange your furniture so everyone has a great view of the game by creating a layered seating arrangement, just like a stadium.

  • Move the couch to face the screen directly.
  • Position armchairs on both sides of the couch for additional spots.
  • Add flexible options like bean bags and floor cushions in front of the couch for a casual and comfortable setup.
  • Bring in kitchen and dining room chairs, dressing them up with cushions or covers to make them more inviting.
  • Place ottomans and benches in the room to double as seating and snack holders.
  • Use bar stools in the back of the room for those guests who prefer a higher perch. Add high top tables if you have them and the space.

Make a Kids Zone

Keeping kids entertained at a sports party ensures that everyone, including the little ones, has a great time. Set up a dedicated “kids’ zone” in another part of the house with activities tailored to their interests, such as sports-themed coloring sheets and crafts. Include board games, puzzles, and a TV to play the game, or kid-friendly shows for those less interested. Set out kid-approved snacks like mini pizzas, popcorn, and fruit. With engaging activities and plenty of fun, the kids will stay entertained while the adults enjoy the big game.

Eat ’em up, eat ’em up!

With a house full of sports fans, snacks are the MVP! Keep snacks simple and accessible so you can watch the game and not be in the kitchen. Arrange a variety of finger foods on a table or counter for easy self-service. Use tiered trays and bowls to maximize space and create a visually appealing spread. Label items to help guests quickly identify their favorites. For a unique twist, serve snacks inspired by the opponents’ location—like Buffalo wings, Philly cheesesteaks, or barbecue sliders. Complement the theme with desserts and serving items in your team’s colors.

When your party is filled with great food, good company, and plenty of team spirit, you’ll always come out a winner, regardless of the outcome. Go team!
