Believe it or not, the PSL first made its debut at Starbucks 16 years ago. That’s a lot of pumpkin spice. If you’re looking for a switch up, here are 3 fresh fall drink recipes to try in the kitchen.

Starbucks shared that since 2003, more than 424 million Pumpkin Spice lattes have been served in the United States. That’s a lotta latte. Now, we are not hatin’ on the PSL, but our kitchen’s always open to try a variety of fall flavors.

Before we get into the flavors, we want to share life-changing news with you. When you make a small investment ($13!) in a heated milk frother, you can become your own best barista (and put your cash toward a home down payment rather than into Starbucks’ already big pockets). Unlimited lattes for the entire fam? That’s living your coziest life.

Cardamom Latte

If you love cinnamon, then you have to give cardamom a try. Cardamom is a spice in the ginger family and tastes similar to nutmeg, but more on the floral side. It also has a lot of physical benefits, like promoting heart health and preventing depression.

To make two cardamom lattes, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • 2 to 4 shots of espresso (here’s how to make espresso without a fancy expensive machine)
  • 2 teaspoons of honey
  • 1 ½ cups of milk (or almond milk, but just know almond milk won’t give you a foamy latte)
  • 2 teaspoons of ground cardamom

Get out your two favorite fall mugs. Brew your espresso and then whisk it with honey. Pour equal parts of this mixture into each mug. Whisk the milk and cardamom together and then froth it with your handy frother. Pour the frothed milk into your mugs (with the sweet espresso in them) and sprinkle a little cardamom on top to make it extra cozy looking. Enjoy!

Salted Caramel Latte

Pumpkin Spice stole the show from the once favorite Caramel Apple fall flavor. This latte brings back the traditional taste of fall and will give you a sweet start to your day, too.

Here’s what you need to make one latte:

  • 1 cup of brewed coffee
  • ½ cup of milk (or nut milk)
  • 2 tablespoons of caramel sauce
  • A pinch of sea salt

In a small saucepan, heat your milk, caramel sauce and sea salt until it’s mixed and heated through. Pour your coffee into a mug while the mixture is warming on the stove (leave room for your caramel-y milk mixture). Once warmed, remove the saucepan from the stove and froth it. Pour into your coffee cup and drizzle some caramel sauce over the top. Enjoy!
