There’s a lot to remember when you are relocating, but don’t forget our furry, feathered and scaly family members! Having a plan of action will help you worry less during the stress of packing and make the move a happy, easier transition for everyone. Plan for whatevfur

If your move isn’t just across town, Make sure to allot some time to give your furry friends plenty of potty breaks, short walks and freshwater. Need to stop for the night? Check out Pets Welcome’s list of pet-friendly hotels.

Keep caw-lm

On moving day, make sure your pets are secured or in a closed room before you are ready to load them into your car. The activities and sounds of moving day will be confusing and frightening to your pets, so it’s important that they are kept in a secure area to reduce their stress.

Prevent a cat-astrophe

The stress of your move may make your pet feel anxious and, furthermore, run the risk of getting lost if they get off-leash. New, unfamiliar surroundings may disorient your pet and prevent them from finding their way back to you. To keep your pet safe, ensure that your fluffy friend is outfitted with an updated microchip and a collar tag with your current contact information and new address.

Along for the tide

While we have A.C., heated seats and a Bluetooth radio, our pets aren’t so lucky on long journeys. It’s important to make your pets’ rides comfortable too! Always transport cats, small dogs and other small animals in a secure, well-ventilated pet carrier. For larger dogs, keep them leashed/ harnessed at all times. We also recommend keeping them contained in their very own pet hammock, which you can find on Amazon here

Take a cat nap!

While moving is stressful, don’t forget to relax too! Not only for your sake but for your pets’ too. Our furry companions are very attuned to their favorite humans- so, if you’re stressed and frustrated during the move, then your pet will be too. By giving yourself plenty of time to get everything in order and enjoying the journey, you can prevent a great deal of last-minute chaos that would otherwise cause stress for both you and your pets.
