How to Make Your Home Fit For Fall

The leaves are changing, the air is crisp and pumpkin spice is everywhere! It’s finally fall! Now is the time to make your home the cozy haven you crave during the autumn season. We’ve curated a few simple ways you can make your home feel ready for fall.

Big, Cuddly Comforters

There’s a throw blanket for every season! Layer throws on the living room couch or your favorite armchair. There’s no better feeling than a Saturday well spent on the sofa for a movie marathon. The warmest and softest blankets are made with materials like fleece, Sherpa, microfiber, faux fur, and wool blends — some are double-faced for added comfort. If you like to feel extra snug, try a weighted blanket or even a heated electric version.

Not sure how to style a throw blanket? Here’s a quick how-to. Layer different textures. Place heavier faux furs or chunky knits on first. Then add a pop of plaid or a warm, rich color on top.

Candlelit Ambiance

With the sun setting earlier, try lighting some candles to add a calming touch to your evening. Next time you’re at the store, pop a few candles into your cart that have classic fall notes like apple, pumpkin or bergamot.

Decorate Your Mantle

(Or if you don’t have a mantle, decorate your shelves!)

Just like our wardrobe, fall home décor is all about adding layers. Mix and match moody artwork (or black and white portraits), dried florals, candles on candelabras and found objects with a bit of wear to them. You can also add some plants to your mantle. Try olive, eucalyptus, or maple branches.

Perfect Your Porch

It’s basically a requirement of fall to have a mini patch of pumpkins and cheerful mums on your front porch. You can also place some by your mailbox, if you’re feeling extra festive! Dried corn stalks will add dimension to your outdoor décor and carry you through to Thanksgiving.

Give these few fall tips a try. A new candle here and a cozy throw blanket there, you’ll find that you can embrace the coziness of the season without breaking the bank.

Fall is one of the best times of the year to slow down and enjoy being at home. The season itself emphasizes warmth and comfort, and brings us closer to simpler things… and shouldn’t that be what our homes are all about?
