While your curb is your home’s first impression, you don’t need to break the bank to make it a great one. In this post, we’re featuring a few budget-friendly outdoor upgrades that will give your home’s curb appeal a fresh summer pop.

Oh, and by the way, all of the ideas below can be completed within a weekend. Dedicate two sunny days to the checklist below and your home will be radiant all summer!

Add More Color.

  • Paint your front door a bold and inviting color that complements your home’s exterior. Try a vibrant red, sunny yellow, or rich navy blue to make a statement. (You can always repaint it if you decide you don’t love it!)
  • Don’t want to commit to painting the door, but still want a bigger, bold color pop on your porch? Get a wooden bench and paint it a bright color to add an element of fun to your curb.
  • Install flower boxes on your porch railings or add symmetrical potted plants to frame your front door. Rather than only choosing one color for your flowers, pick out two to three colors for a more vibrant impression.
  • Sprinkle in colorful accessories like outdoor pillows, doormats, or decorative pots to tie together the overall look.

Refresh Your Landscaping.

  • Choose plants that thrive in Michigan’s climate, such as black-eyed Susans, coneflowers or daylilies. They require less water and maintenance while adding beautiful colors to your front yard.
  • Blanket your flower beds with a new layer of mulch to create a polished, complete look. (Tip: This not only improves aesthetics, but also helps retain moisture and suppresses weed growth.)
  • Add in solar-powered LED lights to your walkways and to highlight your shrubs or trees at night.

Power Wash the Exterior and Make Minor Repairs.

  • You’d be surprised how far a little bit of power washing can go! Rent or borrow a power washer to clean your exterior walls, sidewalks, driveway, fencing and patio/porch.
  • After washing, repair any cracks or potholes in your driveway and walkways. For an even more polished look, take the extra step of applying a fresh coat of sealant.
  • Repair and repaint any fencing, window shutters or the mailbox that may have gotten some wear and tear during the winter and spring.

With these simple and affordable steps, your home will be ready for a hot and bright summer ahead.
