Winter – home of the holidays, cold weather, and unfortunately, feeling down and out. While oftentimes, catching a bug is out of our control, there are a few things we can do to promote a healthier home for ourselves and our families.
Of course, there are the go-to preventative chores, like wiping down countertops, door handles and railings regularly. We’ve gathered four more uncommon tasks you can add in to keep a healthy home this winter.
Diffuse Essential Oils
Essential oils don’t just make a space smell delightful. They actually have health-promoting benefits! This oil, for example, is shown to boost immunity and cleanse the air. All you need to do is use a diffuser, dabble in a few drops and let it go throughout the day. Don’t hesitate to use a few drops on your wrists and temples too, while you’re at it (just make sure it’s therapeutic grade)!
Use A Non-Toxic Cleaner
Effectively cleaning your space is important any time of the year, but vigilantly knocking out germs in the winter is a must! Using an all-natural cleaner with no chemicals throughout the different surfaces of your home will support the overall health of you and your family. We love this brand, especially because there’s a formula for every surface type, and even the laundry!
Include Plants In Your Space
Did you know some plants naturally detox the air? Plants like Peace Lilies (keep away from pets!), Aloe Vera and English Ivy are easy-to-maintain ways to naturally purify the air in your environment. Place these plants in rooms where you gather with family and friends often. If you are still working from home, it’s also a great idea to put one near your workspace.
Get A Water Filter
You may not realize that tap water is often full of toxins that can be harmful to the body. That’s why using a water filter is an easy, effective way to ensure you are staying hydrated this winter sans any bad stuff. We suggest this one and this one.
To keep your wellness levels up, make sure you are also drinking enough water. It’s recommended to drink half of your body weight in ounces. So, if you are 160 pounds, you’ll aim for 80 ounces of water per day. We often become dehydrated while we sleep, so start off each morning with a full crisp cup of filtered water and encourage your family members to do the same!
How will you take care of your health this winter? Wishing you a snowy season without any stuffy noses!
